Kendrick Lamar has reached a level of popularity where he’s now beginning to transcend rap music. The Compton rapper already gave fans one of the best rap/rock collaborations in recent history with “Dragons” and now Kendrick has added his flavor to Tame Impala’s “Feel Like We Only Go Backwards.”
As reported by consequenceofsound.net:
“What’s likely one of the most anticipated tracks off the star-studded Divergent soundtrack has finally been unveiled. Even with Kendrick Lamar’s recent infatuation with Imagine Dragons and indie-rock, his collaboration with Aussie psych-rockers Tame Impala still seems right out of left field. Bust as he did with the “Radioactive (Remix),” Kendrick proves he’s a force to be reckoned with no matter the setting.
“‘Backwards,’ an updated version of Tame Impala’s own ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,’ begins with an all-out assault from K-Dot, as he rallies his troops with a series of battle cries. Meanwhile, Tame Impala’s radiant soundscapes have been fleshed out by a lush string section.”
Kendrick’s new song is set to appear on the soundtrack for the upcoming sci-fi film Divergent, which also features a plethora of star power for the albums.
Pitchfork.com reports:
“The Divergent soundtrack features Kendrick Lamar teaming up with Tame Impala on a new version of Tame Impala’s ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,’ collaborations between A$AP Rocky and Gesaffelstein and Chance the Rapper, Pia Mia, and Clams Casino, M83’s new song ‘I Need You,’ and new music from Skrillex, Ellie Goulding, Snow Patrol and others.”
The Divergent album will be released on March 11, but it is currently being streamed online at pitchfork.com.
