In 1999, rapper Ja Rule engaged in a riff with 50 Cent and G-Unit that brought his career to a halt after a few years. During 50 Cent’s rise to power in the rap game, while making great songs, he created a conflict with Ja Rule in which fans embraced. Ultimately, the music industry and the fans sided with 50 Cent, leaving Ja Rule’s career in a downward spiral that never recovered.
In 2001, Mobb Deep engaged in a very public battle with rap superstar/business mogul Jay Z and the duo’s mainstream success lost major steam thereafter. A highlight on the confrontation is when Jay Z trumped them on his infamous “Takeover” dis track. While calling group member Prodigy a “ballerina” in the lyrics of the song, Jay Z also posted a picture of him on the big screen during a performance of the single at Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert.
