Nelson Mandela incited shock and anger in many American communities for refusing to denounce Cuban dictator Fidel Castro or Libyan Col. Moammar Gadhafi, who had lent their support to Mandela against South African apartheid. “One of the mistakes the Western world makes is to think that their enemies should be our enemies,” he explained to an American TV audience. “We have our own struggle.” He added that those leaders “are placing resources at our disposal to win the struggle.” He also called the controversial Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat “a comrade in arms.” When speaking directly about Castro and Cuba, Madiba said:

“From its earliest days, the Cuban Revolution has also been a source of inspiration to all freedom-loving people. We admire the sacrifices of the Cuban people in maintaining their independence and sovereignty in the face of the vicious imperialist-orquestrated campaign to destroy the impressive gain made in the Cuban Revolution. … Long live the Cuban Revolution. Long live comrade Fidel Castro.”

  1. Whitewash? When I was a child they called him a terrorist, my mother and the film Sarafina gave me a different perspective. Now they call him a hero but they cherry pick what they congratulate home for. They not only white washed him, they manufactured his legacy.

  2. Marvin Brown says:

I'm not sure what your position is on Mandela Angelo, but you could only white wash history for those who are ignorant of the history. His greatness doesn't simply come his struggles but from his tough decisions to resist the temptation to seek retribution against those who did him harm and seek unification instead. History of conflict in Africa (Rwanda) shows that this is an unusual trait.

  3. I'm proud of the good he's done and I'm not a fan of some of his Conservatism. As always, I'm politically independent, as I stated I'm old enough to remember when they tried to make the world hate him and now they all love him. I think there's too much power given to media influence and to the authors of the history books.

  4. Skhumbuzo Mgobhozi says:

This is the Mandela we know…

  5. Dat man never died,as long as i live

  6. If you do not love him? They would put a tire on you…you know the rest of the story. Democrats are the same. If you do not love them? They destroy you. GOP/TEA

  7. The Western powers have won this one they managed to create a proWest anti-communist Mandela, no mention of true historical facts on the legacy that he left for the Glabal communist Revolution

  8. Ai europe zigebengu nje, if u read wht Mandela said. And to understand europe crime against africa, or this world in generally, it would take probably alot of valued time. Also when i read further, regardind head of states who didnt attend Mandelas and some with their foolish reasoning, one turn to found tht not only we hv enemies in europe bt to other parts of the world outside europe. Whilst we need a hand-to-hand with countries to improve our socio-politico-economical stand, this government should work to so hard to improve the education of the masses in order for us to be able to attain our full independancy, the longer we allow this government to enjoy his powers uselessly over us the longer we remain suppressed. Thanks for sharing with us such a important information.

  9. Marvin Brown You believe its great to allow people and their system who have brought destruction death and chaos to your people to maintain land and resources they have stolen with the death murders destruction and chaos of your people as the result. That's not great but fool who adopts philosophy given to him by his enemies of non violence. His enemies are not going to be non violent. We know this based on their history.
