Wale is vehemently defending his brand and his art. The D.C. rapper is upset with the publication Complex for leaving him off of its list of “50 Best Albums Of The Year.”
According to bet.com:
“[Wale] called up the team at Complex magazine Wednesday (Dec. 12) to express his displeasure with exclusion of his “The Gifted” LP from their “50 Best Albums of 2013” list. The website posted the recording of his heated conversation with writer Insanul Ahmed this morning.
“The Maybach Music Group rapper charged the publication with having a personal vendetta against him. ‘At this point, you know it’s got to be personal,” he can be heard saying. ‘You telling me it’s not personal? It’s like a bold face lie. To be omitted from every type of list that y’all do or be at the bottom of it or every type of way that y’all can omit me, ya will.'”
Wale held back no punches while talking to the Complex staff, even pointing out that his work is better that some of his collaborators. As also reported by bet.com:
“In arguing his case that he was intentionally snubbed Wale used Juicy J’s position on the list as proof. Apparently he didn’t see the Three 6 Mafia album’s Stay Trippy debut as worthy of recognition and yells, ‘You mean to tell me Juicy J album better than mine? Is that what you trying to tell me?'”
Twitter erupted in response to Wale’s threats to the Complex staff. Wale may not have had the best response to being snubbed by Complex, and he didn’t appear to know his conversation was being taped. However, artists treat their creations like their children. So, as a father that would protect his child at all cost, Wale is standing up for his work passionately. Maybe next time he can find a better way to articulate his point.
