“Dracula” Season 1, Episode 5: “The Devil’s Waltz” premieres tonight on NBC.
In tonight’s episode, Harker discovers that General Shaw is far from the heroic figure he presents to the public. Van Helsing’s first attempt at infusing a vampiric test-subject with his solar-serum is a disaster. In the midst of hosting an engagement party for Harker and Mina, Grayson searches for Renfield, who has been kidnapped and tortured by Lord Davenport’s agents. Harker and Mina’s engagement party sets a stage for betrayal and contretemps when a dance between Mina and Grayson unveils their true feelings.
A description of the series reads:
“It’s the late 19th century, and the mysterious Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He’s especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night – useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: he hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan. . .until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.”
