When rapper M.I.A. performed the song Y.A.L.A. this week on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, fans noted the psychedelic set  she used as a backdrop. Now it makes make sense as M.I.A. has released the video for Y.A.L.A. that  has so many flashing it lights it starts with a warning.

According to thefader.com:

“Maybe last night’s Light-Brite M.I.A.’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien performance was meant to help adjust our eyes? Because the ‘this film contains flashing images’ warning that precedes the Y.A.L.A. video that was released tonight is not playing. Maya’s at a rainbow rave for one; and director Daniel Sannwald, and co-conspirators iD Magazine and Kenzo (the French fashion house whose fall/winter 2013 show she soundtracked), definitely did not scrimp on strobing color washes, heat mapping and black lights, nor did they shy away from dizzyingly quick camera cuts. It’s so hypnotizing, you’ll want to watch it again and again and again”

M.I.A. is currently on tour promoting her new album Matangi, which was released Nov. 5 to critical acclaim. Y.A.L.A. is one of the standout hits from the album.
