Lupita Nyong’o was only recently introduced to the American audience in her first featured film role as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, but she is quickly becoming a media darling.
Nyong’o’s performance is already garnering Oscar buzz. According to Variety,
“Actors like Nyong’o don’t come along often, and she’s a stunning discovery amidst an ensemble that carves out room for proven talents such as Paul Dano, Alfre Woodard and Brad Pitt.”
The Mexican-born, Kenyan-raised actress is also receiving praises from a former professor, Baba Hillman of her alum Hampshire College.
“She always stood out from the beginning as a brilliant, gifted actor and exceptional filmmaker,” said Hillman.
He adds, “Her films were always politically and artistically challenging. And beautifully crafted always very ambitious.”
The multi-talented performer has also caught the eye of Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Earlier this week, Nyong’o was photographed sharing a laugh with Wintour at the 2013 Museum Of Modern Art Film benefit, “A Tribute To Tilda.”
Anytime Wintour is seen chatting up a Hollywood starlet, a Vogue cover or featured piece seems to follow shortly thereafter.
Only time will tell, but our fingers are crossed.
