With the release date of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” approaching, a new trailer and character posters have been released. The upcoming film is part two in the three-part series and picks up where “Unexpected Journey” left off.
The posters, which were recently released on Facebook a few days ago, features the returning characters from the previous installments, including Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Thorin (Richard Armitage), and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy’s Legolas (Orlando Bloom.) They also provide a detailed look at new characters Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans), warrior elf Tauriel (Evangeline Lily) and elven king Thranduil (Lee Pace), all of whom will play major roles in the final two Hobbit flicks.
“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” trailer debuted during yesterday’s Hobbit fan event livestream, which featured a Q&A with the lead stars and director Peter Jackson. In the 3-minute clip there’s some new footage that centers around the journey of the dwarves, elves, Gandalf, and Bilbo to the Misty Mountain, under which a notorious dragon rules.
Look for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” to hit theaters Dec. 13. Check out the new posters and the trailer below.
