‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’ Trailer

It’s been awhile since the first trailer “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” trailer dropped, but with the film’s released date less than three months away, Warner Bros. has unleashed the second trailer for the sequel to Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is part two in the three-part series and picks up where “Unexpected Journey” left off. The trailer finally gives fans the first extensive look at Martin Freeman’s Bilbo Baggins face off with Benedict Cumberbatch’s motion-capture performance as Smaug, whose attack on and occupation of the dwarf kingdom of Erebor is the catalyst for the story in Peter Jackson’s planned “Hobbit” trilogy.

“Truly, the tales and songs fall utterly short of your enormity, oh Smaug the stupendous,” Bilbo says in a quivering voice after sneaking into the dragon’s treasure-filled lair. Smaug responds later in the trailer.

“Thief, where are you?” Cumberbatch’s distinctive low voice rumbles before the dragon breathes a giant fireball. “Come now. Don’t be shy. Step into the light.”

Aside from Freeman, the film also returns Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, and “Lord of the Rings” alumnus, Orlando Bloom, reprises Legolas. Evangeline Lilly joins Cumberbatch as a newcomer to the cast.

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” hits theaters December 13, 2013. Check out the trailer below to see what the dwarfs have in store for their return to the big screen.
