Cuba’s new Ambassador to Jamaica, Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, says his country is looking to deepen cooperation with Jamaica in the area of trade.
Hernandez says the bilateral relations between Cuba and Jamaica has reached its highest point so far, and consideration is now being given to ways to improve and strengthen these relations even more, the Jamaican Gleaner reports.
Hernandez says his country believes the partners could further this relation specifically in the field of trade.
The Cuban ambassador was part of a delegation at a recent Jamaica Information Service think tank to discuss the upcoming Second Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
The meeting is scheduled to take place Oct. 24-25 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.
Cuban Love for Jamaica
According to the Caribbean Journal, Hernandez said, “We have received love and respect from every Jamaican we have met either on the streets or from organizations. Likewise, Cubans feel the same love and respect for Jamaica. When Usain Bolt wins one of his races, that is also a victory for Cuba. I wish you could see the happy faces of the Cubans when Usain Bolt wins a race, how they would applaud and look so happy.”
The two sides have cooperated on a number of initiatives in recent years, particularly in the health sector, the report said.
