Brooklyn Nets Silence Miami Heat With 86-62 Win

The Brooklyn Nets made a statement on Thursday using defensive toughness to defeat the Miami Heat 86-62 in their preseason game in Brooklyn.

First things first: Jason Kidd’s No. 5 jersey was lifted to the Barclays Center rafters at the beginning ceremony before the tip off,  honoring him for leading the Nets franchise to its greatest NBA success.

Just as expected, a rivalry between the Nets and Heat is brewing. LeBron James spoke out saying that Nets players Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce shouldn’t have been so hard on Ray Allen when he left Boston for the Heat, since Garnett and Pierce ending up leaving themselves.

Garnett wasn’t too pleased by those remarks.

“Tell LeBron worry about Miami,” Garnett said when asked about James’ comments. “He has nothing to do with Celtic business.”

This is how the scoring went for both teams, Brook Lopez led the way 14 points, Evans scored 9 and Pierce dropped 7 for the Nets. Garnett only played 10 minutes and scored 1 point.

Dwyane Wade sat out while James and Chris Bosh each finished with 16 points for the Heat, who shot overall 32 percent.

“We’ve got so many guys out, we’re just trying to get better and not waste an opportunity to get better,” James said. “I think we did that at phases. Obviously, we don’t have all our guys playing, but when guys were in the game, they played, worked hard.”

Miami played mostly reserves in the second half and fell back 44-28

Miami will get their rematch on Nov. 1 in the Nets season opener. Checkout the highlights from Thursday’s game in the video player above.
