DMX has long since passed his glory days at the top of the rap game. These days the Ruff Ryder rapper is in the news for getting arrested or running down hallways naked. The one person who’s still relevant from Ruff Ryder’s pinnacle, Swizz Beatz, is trying to help his old friend make a comeback. Swizz made his mark in the late 90s and early 2000s due in large part to his features on DMX’s albums. Now he’s reportedly trying to return the favor, working on a new DMX album. According to hiphopdx.com:
DMX and Swizz Beatz have been collaborating on new music slated to appear on DMX’s upcoming album, according to DMX’s publicist, Domenick Nati.
“‘Swizz and X are always working on a song,’ Nati said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. ‘Swizz is producing several tracks on X’s album that he’s working on.'”
There is no official release date or title of DMX’s new work, however Swizz and X have been planning big things. Swizz spoke about their plans last year and his obligation to X, stating:
“‘I have a lot of big plans with X that I plan on putting in motion as a brother, as a responsibility, as fans,’ Beatz said. “I’m mapping that out now and the world will soon know about that…DMX is one-of-one. I just hate to see what I’ve been seeing because I remember when people couldn’t follow up with him on stage, big name people…People still don’t understand X. My job is to get people to understand X for real. With reality shows, that stuff is edited. It’s real stuff but I just think people need to see another side of X.”
It is highly improbable that DMX and Swizz Beatz can recapture the magic that they had before, but even if they only achieved a fraction of their previous success, that would be a huge step in a positive direction for DMX.
