Sunday night, when the Boston Redsox were down against the Detroit Tigers, David Ortiz revived the team by hitting a game-tying grand slam in the eighth inning to put them back in the competition. The Redsox eventually went on to win the game to even the AL Championship Series 1-1.
Detroit was on their way to winning a second straight game at Fenway Park, with a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning. One swing from Big Papi turned the game around. Ortiz hit a two-out homer that sent right fielder Torii Hunter on a desperate chase and he flipped over the wall in an attempt to catch the ball.
“It’s playoff baseball,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. “Looked like we had one in hand and we let one get away, there’s no question about that. But there have been two great games.”
The teams will play next in Detroit for Game 3 on Tuesday.
