Jim Brown

Jim Brown is perhaps the greatest running back in football history, an actor and a civil rights activist.

Brown became involved in social and economic causes that were directed at providing opportunities for black entrepreneurs. In the 1960s, he launched the Black Economic Union designed to assist independently owned and operated black businesses. The success of the Union caused the FBI to consider Brown to become a political threat. The former athlete was monitored by the FBI during that time.

Actor Ossie Davis and his wife Ruby Dee were perhaps the most political Hollywood couple of their time. Davis and Dee were very active in the Civil Rights Movement, participating in marches and spoke out for racial equality, and working with friends Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
