Maybach Music rapper Wale continues to promote his critically acclaimed “The Gifted” album that was released in the summer. The D.C. rapper released a new video for the third single off the album, “Golden Salvation (Jesus Piece)” today. According to vibe.com:
“As promised, Wale liberates a new set of visuals for his thought provoking Gifted track, ‘Golden Salvation (Jesus Piece).’ The video takes viewers on an unholy trek, through the diamond embossed eyes of a Jesus medallion. Chike and Coodie Simmons directed the creative offering, which primarily takes place within a church setting.”
The video is shot through the eyes of the Jesus piece, exposing the ills that come along with hip-hop fame, as the chain is passed through different hands, through theft, pawn and purchase. Although some people may not fully get this video concept, Wale insists it is straightforward.
“The message in this video is clear as day,” said Wale. “Had it been released when ‘fans’ cared bout creative music and story telling. It would have challenged listeners. But we live in a time where people have selective hearing.”
Wale is currently on tour with Roc Nation affiliate J. Cole, and as of last month, the album sold 287,000 copies.
