In the “State of Black America” report issued in 2008 by the National Urban League, its president Marc Morial hailed women as “the backbone of the black family.”  The strength of black woman has rightfully been echoed in songs, film and literature. With such an important role within the community, Atlanta Black Star has highlighted areas in which our women have excelled, but with an honest look at additional things we can do to move forward to create a better community.

  2. Nice article. I had to go back and recheck the billions black women spent on hair in 2010, that is mind boggling. Can we imagine what we can do with that much money? Our own schools, black businesses. I truly hope the natural hair consciousness is not a trend, again. Even our natural, we are spending too much. The Koreans, are still trying to make fools of black women. We do not need all those products they are pushing on us. A nice shampoo, and conditioner, and moisterizer, is all that is needed. Let us put these leaches out of business, and continue to progress, move our race forward.
