Jennifer Hudson ‘Terrified’ to Play Drug Addict in Upcoming Film

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson had to look someplace other than her own experiences to find inspiration for her latest film, “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.” The drama, starring Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright and Anthony Mackie, will see Hudson play a heroin-addicted mother. In a recent interview with Manhattan Magazine, the stylish actress and singer revealed why the character “terrified” her.

“It terrified me to play that part because I had no reference point,’ she told the magazine. “I’m 31 and I’ve never, ever, ever had a drink or done a drug in my entire life. I stick with Diet Coke and Crystal Light and water.”

Hudson said she was also nervous to take on South African activist Winnie Mandela.

“It was intimidating to play Winnie after seeing how much she means to the people there. To some she’s an angel and to some she’s Satan, but either way, woo! The strength that woman possesses is amazing. We put so much into the story, and it took a lot out of us.”

In the end, Hudson appears to always pull it together.
