US Open: Williams Sisters Serve Their Way Into Semifinals

Venus and Serena Williams advanced to the U.S. Open women’s doubles semifinals Thursday after pounding the top-seeded team in the tournament.

The sisters defeated the defending champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci 6-3, 6-1 to get closer to their 14th Grand Slam tournament title.

“It would mean so much and obviously, Serena’s doing so well in singles,” Venus Williams said. “For me, this is a chance for a U.S. Open title.”

Serena is still in the singles women’s tournament, where she will be looking to win back-to-back titles. The defending champ plays her semifinal Friday against China’s Li Na.

The Williams sisters will play their next doubles match against Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
