New York Jets QB Competition: Brady Quinn Added to Roster

The New York Jets have made another move to solidify their quarterback position for this football season. With quarterback Mark Sanchez hurt and expected to miss a few weeks, the organization signed veteran Brady Quinn on Monday. It’s possibly a move to back up anticipated starter Geno Smith or a move to cut Sanchez in the near future.

The Jets have to pay Sanchez $8.25 million this season whether he’s plays or not. Teams usually do not cut players who are owed that much money, but general manager John Idzik has not ruled out the possibility, according to a source.

Sanchez responded to a question about the Quinn move, saying, “I don’t know, just keeping a veteran guy around as an emergency guy.”

Quinn arrived to New York Sunday night, worked out for team officials in the morning and participated in practice thereafter.

“It’s a great opportunity,” he said. “The Jets are a historic organization.”
