In a summer filled with superstar rap releases from the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, Wale and J. Cole, two of the most talked about new artists to release debut albums have been A$AP Ferg and Earl Sweatshirt. A$AP Ferg released “Trap Lord” and Earl Sweatshirt released “Doris” last week. Now their sales numbers are in: Both rookies landed in the top ten of the Billboard charts with Earl coming in No. 5 and Ferg coming in at No. 9. According to complex.com:
“Earl Sweatshirt and A$AP Ferg’s debut albums both landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard charts this week.
“The Odd Future member comes in at No. 5 this week as Doris sold 49K, while A$AP Mob’s lieutenant sold 32K of Trap Lord to land at No. 9 on the charts. Both debuts had a great showing considering Earl and Ferg are still in the early stages of their careers.”
Although those numbers aren’t spectacular, they’re definitely commendable for such new artists. Keeping in mind A$AP Ferg and Earl Sweatshirt are followed by a younger demographic – one that is accustomed to getting music for free – the top 10 on the Billboard charts speaks volumes.
