Philadelphia Eagles QB Competition: Vick Takes Lead in New England Patriots Opener

Michael Vick outshone Nick Foles in the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback competition on Friday night.

In their preseason opener against the New England Patriots, Vick threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson, but the star quarterback said they hardly cracked their playbook during the game.

“We didn’t do a third of what we normally would do,” Vick said.

Foles also led the charge in a TD drive, which kept him in the competition for the starting job.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New England Patriots 31-22, the new Eagles coach Chip Kelly seemed pleased with his two quarterbacks’ progress.

“Both got us in the end zone. I was pleased,” Kelly said. “They played pretty well. Both rose to the occasion. I was excited with the way they played.”

On the other side of the ball, Tom Brady looked impressive.

The veteran quarterback led the New England Patriots to a pair of 80-yard TD drives on the only two series he played. Tim Tebow also saw some time in the preseason win.
