Universal Pictures decided that the people want to see more of the “Bourne” franchise, therefore they went into production for another installment featuring Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross.
The studio enlisted author Anthony Peckham to pen the script – bringing the total films to five. “The Bourne Legacy,” Renners’ entry film into the franchise, opened domestically on August 10, 2012, earning $38.1 million its opening weekend. Though it wasn’t a huge hit in America – only making $113.2 million – its $276.6 million worldwide gross proved that the franchise was strong and the world was ready for a new “Bourne” film.
Jeremy Renner’s character, Cross, was a new agent introduced in “The Bourne Legacy,” who had been enhanced medically to be smarter and stronger than other agents as part of Operation Outcome, until he was targeted for termination.
