Nicki Minaj has officially responded to DJ Khaled’s elaborate marriage proposal, but did it steal some shine away from the unveiling of her second fragrance?
Last week the web was in overdrive when a video surfaced of the famed hip-hop DJ professing his love for the Young Money rapper.
With MTV camera’s rolling he stated, in part:
“Nicki Minaj, I’m at MTV, I’m going to be honest with you; I love you. I like you, I want you, I want you to be mine. Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?”
Fans awaited with bated breath for a response. There were unconfirmed rumors that Minaj filed a restraining order against her YMCB label mate, but those reports remained unsubstantiated.
The “Pink Friday” rapper continued with business as usual, posting an image of her latest fragrance on Instagram on Monday. Minaj’s first foray into the celebrity fragrance realm was a huge success and she hopes for a repeat, telling her fans of the design:
“The ones below are outfits that came with PF for a limited time when we launched in the UK. Yes, because they’ve done so well, we’re working on outfits for the US. I never dreamed I’d have a fragrance as a lil black girl in Queens, New York that was born in Trinidad. My fans made me #1 in Macy’s with the 1st fragrance and the rest is history. Love u guys. #GodIsInControl”
News of Minaj’s fragrance garnered little buzz on the web, instead the highlight of her day was responding to Khaled’s fake proposal via New York radio host Funkmaster Flex later Monday.
“I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world ’cause Khaled is a master at what he does.
“Nobody in my real life took it seriously. Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy.’ Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, ya’ll. Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me, he doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.”
Essentially, Nicki Minaj had a laugh at the expense of her fans. Will she lose fans over the fake proposal, not likely. Khaled may face a greater backlash, but time will tell.
