Nicki Minaj graces the August 2013 cover of “Marie Claire” magazine. Highlights from the interview reveal Minaj’s plan for her future in both her career and personal life. The Young Money rapper also manages to offer her young fans some advice on finding a man.
Check out the excerpts below:
The Moment 4 Life rapper admitted she would be a lawyer if it wasn’t for the rap thing, calling the profession, “glamorous, inspiring and ballsy.” Interesting words to describe “persuading someone with your words.” Luckily for her fans, she chose rapping.
During a stop in Australia on her world tour, Minaj revealed she had an epiphany.
“I was on a world tour, a big feat for a female rapper. For the first time, I allowed myself to feel proud of where music had gotten me, and I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. You feel the need to pay it forward, which starts with analyzing yourself with a true desire to grow.”
Minaj revealed the epiphany put her desires to become a mom into perspective:
“I was praying every day, ‘You know what, Lord? I want to be a mom one day, and I want to start becoming the woman who I want to parent my child.’ I wanted all of the feelings of entitlement to leave me, because some people have this life for a year or five or 10 – and a lot of them lose it. I didn’t want to become a person who wasn’t enjoying the moment.”
It is unclear whether the former “American Idol” judge will make babies while rapping, but she has no intentions of leaving the game anytime soon:
“I at least want to do three more albums. If I can do that, I’ll feel complete. One day, when I start getting a couple of gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting. I just never know … I’ve kind of become the poster child for doing the things that no one expects.”
Minaj has been linked to her hype man Safaree Samuels aka Scaff Breezy in the past, however there has been no official reports of a relationship. In the meantime, the rapper has tips for women on finding and keeping a man.
“Don’t chase any man. Put your school first. Men love independent women,” she said. “You don’t have to be a bitch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.”
It’s refreshing to know an artist as successful as Nicki Minaj is thinking about her end game. Kudos.
