Jennifer Hudson Praised for Good Deeds, Powerful Vocals in ‘Black Nativity’

Jennifer Hudson is being praised for all her good deeds at this year’s Do Something Awards, while the Twitterverse is still in awe over her powerful rendition of “Silent Night” featured on the trailer for the upcoming film, “Black Nativity.”

VH1’s Do Something Awards is back and will be honoring many celebrities including LL Cool J, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kelly Osbourne and Jennifer Hudson for the positive impact they have all had on communities across the nation.

Hudson founded the Julian D. King Gift Foundation with her sister Julia Hudson to give back to children of all communities and backgrounds. The foundation aims to make strides in children’s health, education and welfare.

The foundation was created in honor of Hudson’s late nephew Julian and has even turned his birthday into a celebrated holiday.

Every August 14 has been deemed Hatch Day and it is the day that the “American Idol” star and her sister give away tons of school’s supplies to children in Chicago.

Last year’s Hatch Day managed to send over 5,000 inner city children back to school with all the supplies they needed, relieving the financial responsibility for school supplies from their parents.

In addition to giving children school’s supplies, Hudson and her sister host a massive toy drive every year to collect Christmas gifts for children in Chicago.

This year’s toy drive is already expected to outperform last year’s toy drive, which pulled in about 50,000 toys for underprivileged children.

The 31-year-old powerhouse singer is all about putting people in a warm Christmas spirit even if it’s not through a charitable toy drive.

A new trailer was released for the film “Black Nativity” which has many movie-goers eager for summer to fly by so they can rush into the theaters and catch the emotional Christmas flick.

The trailer reveals a powerful story that is only enhanced by the modern R&B rendition of “Silent Night.”

Jennifer’s powerful vocals kick off the trailer with a classical version of the popular Christmas carol before Jacob Latimore joins her for a powerful duet.

“Just watched Black Nativity movie trailer with @jacoblatimore it’s a must see… but November? Really? Too long a wait,” @Tiarmarshay tweeted.

Another fan took to Twitter to express her excitement:  “This trailer looks amazing, can’t wait to see it.”

Even actor Forest Whitaker sent out a tweet saying he was “glad to be part of this.”
