Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is trying to do his part to get a Washington state man released from a North Korean prison with the help of social media.
Kenneth Bae, 44, of Lynwood, was arrested last November and last month sentenced to 15 years hard labor for what North Korea’s state media called “hostile acts.”
In a tweet Tuesday, Rodman called on North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un to “do me a solid and cut Kenneth Bae loose.”
Analysts say Bae’s arrest is likely an attempt by North Korea to force a meeting with the United States. He is at least the sixth American detained in North Korea since 2009. The others were eventually deported or released without serving out their terms, some after trips to Pyongyang by prominent Americans, including former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
