Well Dunder Mufflin fans, your prayers may have just been answered. Despite trying to throw us all off, more rumors have surfaced that Steve Carell might be back for The Office series finale later on May 16th.
If this rumor is true, executive producer Greg Daniels and Steve Carell did a great job concealing the cameo, releasing craftily worded statements denying an official Michael Scott return. Earlier this year, Daniels was quoted saying, “Steve is very much of the opinion that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode and the story arc we did leading up to it was his goodbye to fans and the show. This season is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have. At the moment, we don’t have any plans for him to come back.” But we now know this may not be entirely true. As first seen on TVline, Daniels is continually denying an big Michael Scott return, but that doesn’t mean he might be back in a smaller way.
TVLine also reports that if Carrell does return, it will likely be a fairly small cameo. Fans know that even if Michael Scott just has “small” cameo, his return to Scranton is still a pretty big deal. Many fans were pleasantly surprised to see Steve Carell at The Office wrap party in the real Scranton, PA, we can only hope this “surprise cameo” trend continues.
The will he or won’t he appear on the finale has been a big roller coaster ride, but well worth it if Michael Scott shows up for the endgame. I work at DISH and several of my friends there also hope that Carell will be in the finale so there will be a chance for good resolution for everyone on the show. I was behind a few episodes, but caught up this weekend since I am recording this season on my DISH Hopper. I like to watch new episodes of my favorite shows without worrying about space for other programs I record because my DVR holds up to 2,000 hours of entertainment.
