On this week’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager season 5, episode 16 “Shiny and New,” Amy and Ricky’s relationship grows increasingly strained when Amy decides she wants to tour a college in New York. Leo questions Ricky about his friendship with Clementine. Jack goes to extreme lengths to protect himself with potentially devastating consequences. Adrian is not happy when Omar goes on a business trip without her, especially when she learns that Amy is on the same flight. George’s need to distance himself from Anne leads him down a new career path. Meanwhile, Cierra offers to tutor Ethan in math but his pride keeps him from accepting her help.
The series is absed on a look at how teens at a California high school struggle with decisions about sex and relationships. One model student and daughter succumbs to the charms of the school Romeo and finds herself knocked up; another good girl, a popular, ambitious virgin, doesn’t realize her boyfriend’s stamina for abstinence is not as strong as hers; and one good boy determined to become a bad boy finds that pursuing the object of his affection only brings out the good in him.
