Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry found an interesting way to promote the OWN network, which will be home to two new Perry shows beginning in May: “The Haves and the Have Nots” and “Love Thy Neighbor.”
The duo donned familiar costumes in a parody video, recreating their famous roles: Winfrey as Sofia from “The Color Purple,” and Perry as Madea from several of his films.
In the spot filmed outside of Atlanta, Madea stops Sofia to ask where OWN is located. She gets a much more strident answer than she bargained for.
Perry’s new drama, “The Haves and the Have Nots,” will premiere May 28 on OWN, while his new comedy, “Love Thy Neighbor,” debuts May 29. He’ll appear in the May 26 episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” which will be followed by “Tyler Perry Comes To OWN: Behind The Scenes,” a special about the making of the two series.
