Banish Your Coffee Addiction: Stay Awake By Eating These Foods

Before you run to Starbucks for the third time in one day, you may be surprised to hear what foods you can eat to help you stay awake.

There are tons of studies debating whether too much coffee is harmful for you or not, but there is enough proof to suggest that it certainly is harmful to your waistline.

So instead of indulging in sugar and cream filled lattes when you feel yourself getting tired, try some of these healthy food options that will curve your hunger and give you energy all at the same time.

Citrus Fruits: Citrusy fruits such as grape fruits and oranges can be the perfect snack for you if you’re feeling tired. These fruits are full of vitamin C and the very scent of the fruit can increase how alert you are.

Water: Is there anything water can’t do for you? In addition to curving your appetite, improving your skin, and helping you lose weight, water can also keep you from feeling sluggish during a long day. Many times we don’t realize that the real reason we feel tired is because we are dehydrated. By keeping water in our bodies we can help combat those tiresome feelings and stay more alert throughout the day.

Salmon: Salmon is yet another food with tones of reasons to eat it. If you watch Dr. Oz you’ve probably heard him endorse salmon as a regular part of a healthy diet during almost every weight loss episode. Well the yummy fish can also give you some much needed energy because it’s jam packed with omega-3 fatty acids.

Beans: Beans are full of B-vitamins and protein which are both important if you want to be alert and lively. Combine those elements with the complex carbohydrates and you have a snack that can rev up your energy in no time.

Eggs: This is probably one the last foods that you would guess had anything to do with boosting your energy, but indeed it does. Eggs are rich in choline which can help boost your metabolism and replenish your energy.

Walnuts: This is a quick, easy snack that you can carry around in your purse just in case of emergencies. Of all the nuts, walnuts have the most omega-3 concentration which makes it the most valuable nut if you’re trying to wake yourself up without that daily cup of joe.

Bran Cereal: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day right? Well if you get breakfast right you might find yourself being much more energetic throughout the day. It isn’t just about eating breakfast; it’s about eating the right thing for breakfast as well. Bran cereal is another food that has all those lovely B-complex vitamins that are dire to keeping your energy levels raised.

Dark Chocolate: Yes ladies you can rejoice! We have added yet another reason for you to make room in your diet for chocolate! Please hold your applause. Now of course, chocolate is still full of sugar and isn’t necessarily the best food on this list, but it’s actually a lot better than the grande caramel macchiato you had this morning. The darker the chocolate the better. Darker chocolate has a higher cacao concentration which helps boost energy and keep you focused.

Dark Leafy Greens: Another food group with tons of healthy side effects. Anything from kale to watercress is a great source of Folate, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, calcium, and beta-carotene. You can’t ask for much more. All these nutrients will help not only keep you up, but they will also boost your brain power.
