Creepy, Effective Trailer for 'The Conjuring'

Regardless of whether The Conjuring  turns out to be a terrible or thoroughly average movie, it’ll always stand as having a pretty fantastic trailer. The film is the latest from Saw and Insidious director James Wan, who also has Insidious 2 coming out this year. It’s another horror film designed to turn a big profit off of its low budget. The plot is as follows:

When a rural family of seven begin to suspect that they are not alone on their farmstead, they hire world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) to check out their secluded farmhouse. The Warrens may be seasoned ghost hunters, but they soon realize that they are in over their heads. As supernatural activity around the home becomes increasingly violent and ominous, the couple must fight for their lives in order to destroy the most terrifying evil they have ever encountered.

“Based on a true story” says the trailer. Cue giant eye-roll. But the trailer is also genuinely scary. Rather than blaring loud noises and and rapid cutting at the audience, it builds an atmosphere and works towards a big payoff. It almost works as its own stand-alone short film.

The Conjuring comes out July 19th. Check out the trailer below.
