Jet Magazine Responds To Fantasia’s Cover Complaints

JET Magazine has already responded to Fantasia’s angry Instagram post that scolded them for using an old photo of her for the cover when she had already sent them new ones.

The magazine’s response was simple: they just didn’t like the photos… and neither do we.

Fantasia was fortunate enough to be brought out of the depths of irrelevancy by JET Magazine who placed her on the cover March 2013 issue, but as they say no good deed goes unpunished.

Fantasia lashed out at JET for using an old photo of her and deciding not to use any of the three photos she had already sent them specifically for the cover.

If I was the editor in chief of JET I would have responded with a photo of me pointing and laughing at the photos she sent in or perhaps even a survey of how many people thought the pictures were just strange and gaudy for no apparent reason.

Instead the magazine’s editor in chief, Mitzi Miller, responded with a very kind statement that explained why they chose not to use the photos she sent.

“JET magazine is honored to have Fantasia grace the cover of its March issue,” Miller responded. “It is unfortunate that Fantasia is displeased with the cover selection, however JET stands by its decision. As standard editorial practice, JET consulted with Fantasia’s team, but reserves the right to select the image we deem as most appropriate for JET’s brand and reflective of the cover story sentiment. JET continues to root for Fantasia’s success and encourages her fans to pick up the new issue.”

At the end of the day, JET did the powerhouse songstress a huge favor in more ways than one.

First things first, let’s be honest, with so many African American females shining at their brightest and reaching new heights in their careers JET certainly didn’t have to extend the cover offer to Fantasia. It could have easily been Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, or Kerry Washington on the cover, but they chose her instead.

Secondly, the photos that Fantasia and her team submitted were just down right awful, but apparently she didn’t see that.

“This saddens Me!!! It is clear that this picture is 10 Years Old and JET Magazine puts it on the Cover!! After I send them the NEW LOOK AND DIRECTION. . SAD!!! I WANT A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM JET,” the powerhouse vocalist posted on Instagram.

Really? No seriously… really Fantasia? The picture is too old of a photo of you?

Well that certainly seems like an injustice considering how much your appearance has changed over the years. Yes… everything about you is different now that you added that tired Cleopatra wig to the equation.

The major different between the photos are that the one JET used made her look like a classy, matured artist. The ones she wanted them to use made her look like an Egyptian drag queen.

…And what’s up with the pose of her sniffing her fingernails? Or the one with an annoying glare on the side of the photo? Most teenagers’ Facebook photos that they take in a dirty bathroom mirror are of better quality than the submitted photos.

With all due respect Mrs. Barrino, you owe JET Magazine a huge thank you for doing their best to keep those photos out of the public eye.
