Despite snow storm Nemo wrecking havoc on the Northeast, Identity Thief still had a strong opening this weekend at the box office. While other movies didn’t fare so well.
Funny woman Melissa McCarthy and the always lovable Jason Bateman are comedic gold in their movie Identity Thief. The unique duo brought in an estimated $11.2 million on its opening night from 3,141 locations. If the flick stays on track, Universal Pictures is expecting $35 million in sales for the weekend, which would be the best opening yet in 2013.
Rounding out second for the weekend is the zombie rom-com Warm Bodies. The film held the first place title during its opening last weekend, but since then has dropped down 60% with an estimated $3.3 million this weekend. Which in its eight day showing has racked up an impressive sum of $28.4 million.
And opening in third, to disappointing numbers, Steven Soderberg’s suspense thriller Side Effects bringing in $2.8 million this weekend. Despite having some big name players attached to the film such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum and Jude Law, the film still couldn’t bring in the crowds.
