Fans of the iconic X-Men series will be pleased to know that the heavily anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past will feature one of the staples of the series — the almighty Sentinel.
According to a recent report from Digital Spy, creative consultant to the film Mark Millar has promised audiences will be introduced to the Sentinel in the upcoming film. X-Men: Days of Future Past will mark the first time the enormous robots have ever hit the silver screen.
“I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story,” Millar said. “They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers.”
2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand teased fanboys and comic fans alike by showing the head of a Sentinel, seeming to tease and pique sensibilities in one mere frame of screen time. Millar assures that Days of Future Past will deliver with much more satisfaction.
“We’ve all been waiting for this ever since X-Men: The Last Stand showed us one of their heads,” he said. “Now it is finally coming, and we only have to pay ten quid to see it in the cinema whereas they’re having to pay $100 million to deliver it. So I’m delighted.”
For those of you unfamiliar to X-Men mythology, Sentinels are a group of giant robots that hunt mutants. They’ve always played a central role since their introduction in X-Men’s original comic book run. They’ve always been a source of action, a fact hopefully remembered by director Bryan Singer in the new film.
X-Men: Days of Future Past still has a while to go before its July 2014 debut. Obviously, that hasn’t stopped it from garnering attention and generating a hefty amount of publicity, so we’re sure there’s still more to tell in the next year and a half. Be sure to check back for updates.
