Willow Smith Walks Away From 'Annie' Remake

Willow Smith will no longer star in the Annie remake, in which her father, Will Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment, will produce alongside rapper Jay Z. The new Annie project has been in the works for about three years now but for some reason the movie has been at a stand still.

What is the reason for Willow’s departure? At this time, there isn’t an official explanation for the spilt but many sources have speculated that it’s because of her age difference. When Willow originally signed on to the project she was three years younger, and looked it. Now, she has grown in height and also maturity, indicating that she may look too old to play Annie.

Will and Jay reportedly hired Aline Brosh McKenna to write the screenplay of the updated adaptation of the Broadway classic musical Annie, which is suppose be set in Detroit, Michigan. McKenna has worked on numerous big projects in the past. Her work history includes writing the screenplays for The Devil Wears Prada27 Dresses and most recently We Bought A Zoo.

Will Gluck will direct Annie, that is whenever the production team finds a lead to star.  More details coming soon…
