Tom Welling Set to Co-Star in 'Parkland'

A recent report from Deadline has stated Smallville‘s Tom Welling will be joining the cast of Parkland, a new film revolving around the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

For ten years, Tom Welling captured the hearts of millions as a young Clark Kent growing up in Smallville before his days of wearing blue spandex. Welling will now break free of the small screen in exchange for a bigger one, landing a co-starring role alongside such names as Pail Giamatti, Zac Efron, Ron Livingston, and Billy Bob Thornton. But don’t worry, he won’t be playing the killer — that part has already been given to Jeremy Strong.

Parkland will recount the chaotic events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas the day former President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.  The film — which is currently underway — is written and directed by Peter Landesman, who has no other titles to his name. This can only lead one to believe Parkland has something in its script to attract such well known names (a clever twist, skill, drama, something!).

Tom Welling has attempted to make the transition from TV to film a couple of times now. You may or may not remember his stereotypical roles in Cheaper by the Dozen and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 as the eldest suburban son. Tom Welling also played the leading role in 2005’s disastrous remake of John Carpenter’s The Fog. Don’t feel too bad about missing any of those.

Hopefully, Parkland will be a different story for Tom Welling and, well, for all of us viewers by stepping up a notch. The film is in talks to be distributed nationally in the fall, sometime around the 50th anniversary of JFK’s infamous assassination (November for all you non-history nuts).
