It was only a matter of time until Amy Poehler imparted her wisdom to the world via hardback book. The Parks and Recreation star just signed a deal to release her first book with Harper Collins in 2014.
Apparently writing a memoir is the thing to do if you’re a funny woman.
As seen on The Hollywood Reporter this morning, Poehler is following in the footsteps of her bestie, Tina Fey, who has sold more than 2 million copies of her book Bossypants. Other comedienne’s to pen their own novels include Mindy Kaling, Chelsea Handler, and Sarah Silverman. Girls creator Lena Dunham just signed a $3.7 million book deal of her own.
While Poehler is known for her comedic acting over writing, her book will most definitely be a best seller. Poehler gave the world a sneak peak at her insightful written humor when she gave the 2011 commencement speech at Harvard. Her speech was laugh out loud funny and peppered with inspirational real life advice. “Continue to share your heart with people even if its been broken,” Poehler advised to the grads, “Don’t treat your heart like an action figure wrapped in plastic and never used.” And boom, there she goes appealing to every Harvard grad’s inner geek and showing off her delightful wit. Her rib-tickling commencement speech is uplifting even if you didn’t go to Harvard and I strongly recommend watching.
Poehler promises her book will be “true stories, fictional anecdotes, and life lessons.” Is it too soon to sign up for preorder on Amazon?
