The SAG Awards Are Do-Or-Die

Often times the SAG Awards set the tone for the rest of the award season, or better yet, the Oscars. In past years, many winners who had the chance to walk across the stage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards saw similar success at the Oscar.

Back in October, Ben Affleck’s Argo was a heavy topic when referring to the Oscar for Best Picture. That was until Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln hit theaters the next month, stealing the show, causing many critics to jump on its bandwagon. Then Affleck turned the attention back on him after Argo took the award for Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, establishing that he won’t go down without a fight, and pledging to be a real contender for the Oscar.

Winning the Producers Guild’s best picture prize at the SAG awards is do-or-die for Lincoln and Argo. The last five years, the PGA winners has gone on to win the subsequent Oscar. So whichever movie manages to take the cake, or emerges victorious may jump to the Oscar front. Taking a wild guess, I would have to say that Spielberg will get his revenge by taking the PGA, but like everyone knows, anything could happen.
