Back in October WhoGotTheRole.com reported that Universal was in the begining stages of putting together a sequel for the 1999 romantic comedy, The Best Man. Well now fans can officially get ready for more drama as the entire cast reunites to bring more laughs, tears and rivalry as the sequel heads back to the big screen this fall, Universal Pictures announced Thursday.
The second installment of the film will hit theaters on November 15, 2013, and will follow the original group of college friends as they come together over the Holiday seasons.
The Best Man had a $9 million budget, but grossed $34 million according to Yahoo. The film arguably helped elevate the careers of Taye Diggs, who co-stars in ABC’s Private Practice and Terrence Howard, who later was nominated for an Oscar for his 2005 role in the movie Hustle and Flow.
Malcolm D. Lee returns to write and direct the sequel, as Sean Daniel (The Mummy) will help produce.
Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall are all returning to reprise their roles.
With the success of the first installment of Best Man, followed by the mega-success of Think Like A Man ($96 million worldwide), African American rom-coms with a star-studded cast is becoming Hollywood’s sure bet for raking in a big return on a small budget.
