Jennifer Lawrence hosted yesterday’s Saturday Night Live and is already predicted to be a SNL favorite after her “Hunger Games” press conference spoof and roasting her fellow Oscar nominees.
Jennifer has been in the spotlight for being the spunky “Hunger Games” character Katniss, but nobody was expecting her to have such great comical chops as a first time SNL host.
Sure, she seemed pretty witty in her interviews and her fearless yet quirky behavior was entertaining but hosting “Saturday Night Live” is a difficult task that some believe even Jamie Foxx didn’t do very well.
Lawrence, on the other hand, effortlessly strutted her way onto the “SNL” stage and took aim at fellow Best Actress nominees for the Oscars.
“Well, well, well. Look who it is… Jessica Chastain,” the “Hunger Games” star said. “More like, Jessica Chas-ain’t winning no Oscar on my watch!”
After taking a funny jab at Jessica, Jennifer then focused on the Golden Globes where she handled her “I beat Meryl” controversy like a true star.
For “SNL,” however, she was more focused on joking about Tommy Lee Jones’ now famously stern glare that he wore for most of the Golden Globes.
Lawrence announced that the best part of the Golden Globes was meeting “the most fun person I’ve ever met: Tommy Lee Jones!”
Bill Hader took on the role or recreating the famous moment as the camera panned over to the Tommy Lee Jones impersonator as his face was seemingly stuck in a scowl.
After effortlessly tackling her live hosting responsibilities, Lawrence showed off her acting skills in her many hilarious sketches throughout the show.
In one sketch she appeared as a guest on a Girlfriends Talk Show Sketch where she was that one annoying friend who brags about almost everything while trying to fit in with a certain crowd – in this case the punk-rock crowd.
The wanna-be punk Jennifer sat down with friends as she bragged about going to New York a good “two or three” times and even hinted that she might be a little bi-curious.
Even that sketch couldn’t top the actress’s Hunger Games spoof, however, which took a few jabs at the movie while also tapping into the huge Lance Armstrong lie controversy.
In the spoof the “Hunger Games” characters were at a press conference where Katniss was asked if she had used any performance enhancing drugs.
She nervously denied all allegations in the sketch as all the characters were dressed like modern day hipsters.
Ironically, it seems like the “Silver Linings Playbook” actress’s reaction to the “I Beat Meryl” controversy was exactly what clued people in that she was actually quite hilarious and quick witted.
After she snagged a Golden Globe for Best Actress she made a movie reference which many people didn’t catch.
“I beat Meryl,” she exclaimed during his acceptance speech before later tweeting it as well.
While some people thought she was taking aim the iconic actress Meryl Streep, she was truly just quoting a Bette Midler quote from the 1996 comedy The First Wives Club.
Instead of becoming flustered by the people who didn’t get the joke, Lawrence went on about her business and wasn’t even phased when Lindsay Lohan tried to call her out on it.
“No1 should ever mess with a legend such as Meryl Streep,” Lohan tweeted.
During an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday, however, she gracefully and comically replied to the Lohan tweet in a way that didn’t necessarily bash the star while still pointing out that she was a being quite ridiculous.
“I had no idea Lindsay Lohan would take to the Twitterverse (to complain)… Twitter is very upset,” she joked.
She went on to explain that she had no intentions of insulting Meryl Streep and that she is obviously a huge fan of hers.
“I was like, is this what this turned into,” the “Winter’s Bone” actress continued. “I don’t like Meryl Streep? As if I’ve had my eyes on getting that girl forever and I was like ‘Finally! I knew it would happen one day.’”
She also revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Streep yet after the incident simply because she is too “nervous.”
“I don’t know if I want to – I’m nervous,” she admitted. “I wanted to make a public statement, like ‘Hey idiots. It’s a quote from a movie!’”
The irony is, the young actress already talked about how much she loved Meryl Streep long before the controversial speech even happened.
“Like, for instance, one time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep,” she told Vanity Fair magazine.
She handled the controversy like an acting vet, and we’re pretty sure we’ll see her retuning to “SNL” in the future.
