Not news: Woody Allen has a new movie this year. He has a new movie every year. News: we now actually know things about this movie. It has been picked up for distribution by Sony Pictures Classics, which has released some info.
It’s called Blue Jasmine, and it’s about “the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.” Alright. That sounds… Allen-ish. But look at the cast: Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg! Holy cow! That’s a killer lineup, right there (Well, besides Dice Clay, but you never know when a director could pull a great performance out of an unlikely source). That alone is enough to make me hope that this is good.
*Fact: It’s impossible to find a photo of Allen in which he doesn’t look miserable.
