Kelly Clarkson was never bothered by the persistent gay rumors that have surrounded her personal life.
Before her recent engagement, Clarkson, 30, was single for six years. “People think, ‘Oh, she’s been single for too long,’” she said. “That’s kind of an insult to the gay community. Being single doesn’t mean you’re gay. But I’m never insulted by it, obviously.”
Even though she found the comments offensive to the LGBT community, Clarkson took the gay rumors in stride. “I mean, I get hit on by the hottest girls ever. Oh, my god, if I were a lesbian, I would be so in luck. But it’s just not my thing.”
Clarkson also commented her previously bad luck with men. “But usually the guys who hit on me are tools,” she said. “It’s the ones that don’t hit on you that make you like “Why didn’t you ask me out?”’
Now it seems like she has found one of the good ones in fiance Brandon Blackstock, 35.
“Six years I was single before this,” she says of her engagement to Blackstock. “I’ve never been truly loved like I am right now.” Clarkson and Blackstock got engaged back in December, firmly squashing the Kelly Clarkson gay rumors.
An elated Clarkson shared the news on Twitter. “I’M ENGAGED!” Clarkson tweeted with excitement. “I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.” Clarkson also revealed her canary diamond sparkler to Twitter followers.
The couple have only been dating for a year, but have known each other for quite some time. Brandon is the son of Kelly’s manager, Narvel Blackstock, who is married to Reba McEntire. Brandon is also a successful manager, with Blake Shelton among his clients.
The two have yet to announce wedding plans.
