Open Road films is negotiating to acquire the rights for the new film Jobs, from director Joshua Michael Stern, which stars Two and a Half Men’s Ashton Kutcher as the Steve Jobs. The film was made independently by Five Star Features and is slated to close the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
Stern’s film focuses on the hardships that the co-founder of the major Apple company faced between the years of 1971-2000 to get his company off the ground. The Indie film’s supporting cast includes Dermot Mulroney, James Woods, Matthew Modine, Josh Gad, J.K. Simmons, and Lukas Haas.
According to Matt Whiteley, who is the writer of the film, more details will be given once the disturbutor gets back with him, but he believes that the deal will close imminently.
Currently, there is also another biopic being made about Jobs. Writer Aaron Sorkin, who worked with brought us The Social Network and Moneyball, will create a three 30 minute segment movie about the Apple co-founder. He will base the movie off of Walter Isaacson’s best selling novel Steve Jobs, that was completed in collaboration with the Apple Founder.
