Ann Curry Begs NBC to Release Her for Anchor Job on CNN

Ann Curry begs NBC to release her from contractAnn Curry is begging NBC to release her from her contract to pursue an anchor job at CNN, but NBC isn’t hearing it.

Curry is currently earmarked for Anderson Cooper’s coveted 8pm slot on CNN, but first she has to get the green light from NBC.

The problem is NBC isn’t going to let Curry go without a fight, begging or not, despite the fact that they just demoted the former Today show anchor and blamed her for the show’s drop in ratings.

“Ann wants out of her contract, big time,” one source told Radar Online. “She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network. However, NBC bosses have indicated they are unwilling to release Ann from the contract.”

Simply quitting isn’t the best option for Ann either due to a non-compete clause in the anchor’s contract.

Ann Curry begs NBC to release her to CNN“If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,” the source continued.

Jeff Zucker, the former Today show boss, will be taking over as president of CNN Worldwide in February and has his eye on Curry to take over the coveted spot.

Earlier this year Ann was demoted from being an anchor on the Today show after bosses believed a fresh new face would boost their ratings.

Needless to say, the new face didn’t help their ratings much and poor handling of the situation caused their ratings to plummet.

‘The numbers don’t lie,” one insider said. “[Ann] wasn’t responsible for the show tanking in the ratings. Ann doesn’t like the fact that the show isn’t back on top, but her on-air presence wasn’t the problem. In fact, the show lost more viewers after Ann departed the show.”

Now that the network sees the mistake they made by demoting Ann, it seems they just don’t want to let her go but letting her go might actually be the only thing left that can save them at this point.

Fans still have a bitter taste in their mouth after the network unfairly demoted the beloved anchor woman, and allowing her to move on to bigger and better things might help them forget and possibly forgive the network.

Ann Curry begs to leave NBC to join CNN Unfortunately for NBC, however, forcing Ann to miss out on the big CNN opportunity has only reminded viewers of how unfairly she has been treated throughout 2012.

“As long as Ann remains at NBC, it will be constant reminder to everyone of how badly the situation was handled,” the insider added.

It seems like there may be a gleam of hope for the former Today show anchor as her lawyers believe the demotion was a breach of contract and she shouldn’t have to hold up her end of the bargain any more.

“Ann’s lawyer feels that there is a very strong case to be made that NBC has breached terms of the deal because Curry was demoted from Today,” the source added. “Furthermore, Ann has basically been sequestered from appearing on the network. Yes, she has been doing some work that has been assigned to her, but it hasn’t been steady.”

If Curry does take over Anderson’s spot, she is likely to become a “Christine Amanpour” of sorts while becoming an international correspondent.

  1. Karla Groome says:

NBC made a mistake removing Ann Curry off the Today show. They should have replaced Matt Lauer instead. I think a younger man would have had a lot more appeal. Ann was and always will be a favorite.

  2. What a drama queen.

  3. NBC basically tried to wreck her career and now won't let her pursue it elsewhere. Another reason why NBC is still #4.

  4. Ann was the best time NBC had going for them. Do not like the new anchor.

  5. Ann is not going to be able to go to CNN because she is not keeping the bosses at NBC happy ( on her back). That is the only way that Guthery (in my opinion)got the job. She is a terrible anchor. Thank God for GMA.

  6. Yolie Pinon says:

I don't watch the show anymore since they let Ann Curry go. If they had handled it in a more dignified way, perhaps I'd feel different. I do like Savannah, but will never watch the show again because of how they treated Ann.

  7. Didn't NBC learn from the last time they did this to someone on the TODAY show? Ann Curry does need to leave NBC. They don't want her and is hurting her every time she goes to work. Matt is over payed by mullions. He does not deserve his pay check. IIf I remember the story right Matt caused the last time this happened also. It is always someone pther than him to cause the ratings to drop.

NBC execs. Again. First they treat her like rubbish, then they try to ruin her career when she gets an offer @CNN. She easily could have replaced Larry King. AC got a reputation to take her profession seriously. We would give her an own channel dealing with all sorts of information, this lady would simply turn the station into a leading one. People got upset when she was crying in front of the camera while hiding that NBC denoted her for something she didn't do, didn't cause.
AC is a public favorite and this for years. People want her back. Since the behavior of the NBC execs, it's the right thing to do, to let her settle with CNN. Now this channel is on mobile-phones, internet. Give us back Anne Curry.

While I have always liked Ann Curry, Very Much…I think this whole thing needs to just go away. Ann has always been bright and cheery, very compassionate where appropriate, However she doesn't have WIT, that is accompanied with humor that Katie Couric, or Meredith Viera have. They are all 3 great reporters. Ann doesn't seem as spontaneous as the others did. I have, also always liked Matt Lauer, still do. I don't understand why he has gotten so much flack over this Ann thing. I have no doulbt he was ask to offer his input when the powers that be, were worried about the ratings dip. I seriously doubt that He was the one that fired her…or should I say re-routed her job. I believe NBC, will without questions allow her to leave and go to CNN. All parties, I'm sure want to put this to rest. PLEASE.

  10. I have been a "long time" follower of the Today Show. However, I presently DO NOT want to look at the show anymore especially with the mishandling of Ann Curry. She is a classy lady and DESERVES MUCH BETTER!
