The beloved Good Morning America host, Robin Roberts, will be returning to her ABC News position full-time in May or June.
Back in June, Roberts was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome, thereafter began her leave of absence from Good Morning America in September. In October, Roberts received a bone marrow transplant and according to her doctors, Roberts’ progress is right on schedule and she is doing well. In fact, Roberts recovery is going well enough that she appeared on a pre-taped segment for the show filmed at her home previously this month.
ABC News executives hoped that Roberts would be returning to her hosting position with Good Morning America in February, since her progress is significant. However, doctors fear that returning too early would compromise Roberts’s weak immune system.
Good Morning America fans do not fear, an ABC News spokeswoman told the Orlando Sentinel “We have never put a timetable on Robin’s return to the show. We have always said that the decision will be made by her doctors when they feel it is the right time.” With this statement, it does not seem like Roberts job is on the line, which will be a relief to her fans.
According to TMZ, Roberts has received floods of letters and emails from her supportive fans. Are you a Robin Roberts Good Morning America fan? Regardless if you are or aren’t, we all wish Robin Roberts a healthy and speedy recovery.
