Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones was arrested early Christmas Day and charged with battery after allegedly assaulting his wife, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Gwinnett County police responded to the Jones’s home around 1:25 a.m. Tuesday in Duluth,GA. Gwinnett police said in a statement that the call was in reference to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife. Police began an investigation into the dispute, which resulted in the arrest of Jones and him being charged with battery.
In an incident report obtained by Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Nicole Jones told officers she and Andruw threw a Christmas party Tuesday night and during the party Jones had several alcoholic drinks.
Once the party ended, Nicole told Andruw that they needed to get the house set up for Christmas morning and she asked him to help her put together a computer table, the police report stated.
That police report further states that Nicole said Andruw became argumentative as they worked to put the table together. He then grabbed her by the left arm and she pulled away and attempted to head upstairs. Andruw then grabbed her by the ankle and pulled her down and put his hands around her neck and said, “I want to kill you, I want to [expletive] kill you.”
Nicole was able to break away from Andruw and flee to the home of her parents, who live a short distance away.
When Andruw was questioned by police about the incident, he completely denied hurting his wife. But according to the police report Nicole had “visible injuries” after the incident.
He was then arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County jail around 4 a.m. and was released around 11 a.m. after posting a $2,500 bond.
The 35-year-old made his major league debut with the Atlanta Braves in 1996 and played with them for 12 seasons. He has since played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees. Earlier this month he signed a one-year contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League worth $3.5 million.
Jones is a five-time all-star outfielder with 434 home runs and 10 Gold Glove awards in 16 seasons in the major leagues.
