Philanthropists, Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, Preserve Black Achievement

Walt Disney world will display more than 40 pieces from the Kinsey Collection to the American Adventure pavilion starting in late winter 2013.

When the exhibit opens at the American Heritage Gallery, Disney guests will have the opportunity to see more than 40 pieces from the collection – art, sculpture, books, documents – which focuses on African-American art and history.

The Kinsey Collection is a national touring exhibit, with its tagline “where art and history intersect,” tells the “often untold story of African American achievement and contribution.” The collection is in one of the largest private collections of its kind. It represents the works of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey. The couple traveled to more than 90 countries, acquiring materials dating back to the 17th century.
