The CW Orders Two New Reality Shows

The CW has ordered two new reality TV shows – one emulating The Hunger Games and the other is a twist on typical dating series. Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, announced that The Hunt and Perfect Score have been ordered to series.

Who will prevail like Katniss Everdeen on ‘The Hunt’?

The Hunt sounds a lot like Survivor meets Hunger Games. Twelve teams of two are thrust into the wilderness with no food, no shelter, and must try to not only survive, but capture the other teams of two. They will rely on physical ability, huntingand survival skills to hopefully win the cash prize. I’m very interested to see how one team can possibly capture another without actually hurting them. The show sounds intriguing to say the least. I’m mostly concerned about how logistics can make this possible. Sending 24 people  (plus camera crews) into the wilderness for an entire month where they are literally hunting each other sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Perfect Score seems to be a little less death defying. The 30-minute series is a dating competition in which contestants try to find their match. In addition to potentially finding a new soul mate, contestants also have the option to win cash if they correctly identify their perfect match. Again, logistics come into play here and I’m curious as to what the standards are for winning a “perfect score.” Surely it’s all based on personality and has nothing to do with looks…

Anyway, good for the CW trying to pick up some interesting new reality television. It has a long standing success with America’s Next Top Model, which just launched its 20th cycle. I definitely won’t be tuning into the network for any of their scripted shows (Vampire Diaries, 90210, or Gossip Girl) but perhaps their unscripted shows will help up their woeful ratings.
