It’s a bit surprising that a Judd Apatow movie is getting somewhat lost in the shuffle this holiday season. Remember how gaga everyone went for The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up? Did audiences really just dislike Funny People so much that they aren’t willing to trust the man anymore (Funny People is great, by the way. All y’all were wrong about that)? Of course, it’s coming in the middle of a crowded herd of releases, sandwiched between The Hobbit and Django Unchained and Les Misérables.
Anyway, This is 40 now has a red band trailer, though one that’s not especially red band. Apatow’s daughter Maude says “dick” and that’s basically the most offensive thing. The trailer doesn’t do much to illuminate the plot, which we already know is about the respective midlife crises of Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann’s characters from Knocked Up, who have gone from supporting cast to mains. Early critical reception to the movie has been mostly positive, so I’m definitely looking forward to it.
This is 40 comes out December 19th. Check out the trailer below…
