Anchorman 2 preliminary production is shaping up and it looks as though a major casting has come into fruition. Bridesmaids star, Kristen Wiig has signed on take on the KVWN-TV boys in the Anchorman sequel.
Wiig is set to appear in the highly anticipated Anchorman 2, which is the sequel to the 2004 Will Ferrell comedy about a 70s San Diego news anchor named Ron Burgundy. In the film, Burgundy constantly clashed with his new female counterpart which was fueled by with his sexist attitude towards women.
Wiig is set to play Steve Carell’s love interest in the sequel. Carell is Ferell’s co-star, who was intellectually challenged weatherman Brick Tamland, in the original movie.
Director Adam McKay is returning for Anchorman: The Legend Continues, which is being produced by Judd Apatow through his Apatow Productions company. Ferrell will also be back as Burgundy. Christina Applegate, who played in the original opposite Ferrell as his enemy/flame Veronica Corningstone, is also set to reprise her role. Paul Rudd, who played Brian Fantana on the San Diego’s KVWN-TV Channel 4 team, will also return.
The script is still being written, and no other actors has been listed as of yet, but Anchorman 2 is due to be released in October 2013.
